Notes

I am going to talk about evolutionary time series data analysis with a focus on the paper of Buffalo & Coop, 2020, on an approach to separate variation in allele frequency due to natural selection from the variation due to genetic drift. I am first going to cover the method, and then demonstrate how the same results can be obtained from simpler principles widely used in forecasting behavior of stocks where a similar problem of separating a directional signal from a random walk often emerges.
