When?
Monday, 2 December 2019
13.00 - 14.00 h
Where?
Stockholm - Scilifelab Gamma 7, Paris
Virtual conference - SciLifeLab@vconf.kth.se (how to connect)
Which paper are we discussing?
Deep Learning for Population Genetic Inference, Sara Sheehan and Yun Song (https://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004845)
According to the authors, this is the first application of deep learning to population genetics inference. In any case, it presents an interesting application in which population genetics statistics are calculated from large amounts of simulated data and used as training data for a deep learning architecture. Whereas the authors use the package msms for their analysis, I hopefully will be able to show a toy example utilising the forward simulator SLiM3 and pythons deep learning package keras. A jupyter notebook is in the making and will be uploaded to the Bitbucket repository https://bitbucket.org/scilifelab-lts/nonmodeljc/src/master/

We should discuss finding a different time/day for next semester because the Journal Club currently overlaps with the Bioinformatics drop-in in Göteborg (Chalmers).
