What is the meeting about?

Linking exposures to health via metabolic regulation: Building data analytical pipelines for meeting-in-the-middle.

Who is the responsible presenter?Carl Brunius, Chalmers University of Technology

Abstract: Associate Professor Carl Brunius leads the Computational Metabolomics team in the Food and Health research environment at the Dept of Biology and Biological Engineering, Chalmers. His main research interest is divided between high-throughput, high quality generation of untargeted LC-MS metabolomics data and molecular epidemiological approaches to link exposures to downstream health outcomes via metabolic regulation. In his presentation, Carl will talk about their “TriPlot” tool that combines Omics variables, representing metabolic regulation, with associations to both exposures and health outcomes using a so-called “meet-in-the-middle” approach. In this approach, supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques are combined with classical statistical tools in a data analytical pipeline to be able to address both the high-dimensional nature of Omics data as well as the need to adjust for confounders. He will show how the TriPlot approach has been used in their research and showcase in live coding using freely available example data.
